A Hospital Serving More Than It Can Hold

Swedru Municipal Hospital is the primary referral centre for Agona West Municipality and neighbouring districts — Agona East, Awutu Senya, Gomoa Central, and Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa. Yet its maternity ward holds only 50 beds for over 3,500 deliveries per year — more than Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.

Nursing mothers sleep on floors or sit in chairs for days post-delivery. Emergency obstetric referrals face delays. Infection risks rise. We are working to change this by advocating for and supporting the construction of an additional maternity block and children's ward.
