Cholera Outbreak Response: Vaccination Campaign Reaches Agona West Communities

After the Central Region recorded 412 suspected cholera cases and three deaths within three weeks, the Ghana Health Service launched a free oral cholera vaccination programme in Agona Swedru in February 2025. Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh paid an unannounced visit to Swedru Municipal Government Hospital, pledging government support. 450 trained personnel were deployed to ensure no community was left behind.

Agona West MP Donates Over 30 Categories of Equipment to Swedru Hospital & 16 Health Centres

MP Ernestina Ofori Dangbey fulfilled her 2024 election campaign pledge by donating a comprehensive range of medical equipment to Swedru Municipal Government Hospital on July 1, 2025. The donation — covering beds, BP apparatus, ultrasound scanners, pulse oximeters, glucometers, autoclave, foetal Doppler, vacuum extractor, episiotomy lamps, and many more — will be distributed to 16 health centres across Agona West to improve frontline healthcare delivery. Dr Jocelyn Darkwa, Municipal Director of Health Services, commended the MP for her prompt response, while Medical Superintendent Dr Julius Abuku confirmed the equipment would be carefully maintained. The MP also disclosed ongoing discussions with the Health Minister for a modern X-ray machine and plans to expand the hospital's female ward.
